Default Problem with imobiliser on my c200 Help!!

Hi all, New to this forum, just purchased my first merc!
I have a very tidy C200 saloon 1996 model, but it has a strange problem with imobiliser.
Occasionally when trying to start the car both red and green indicators on interior mirror flash repetedly and of course the engine will not start although it does crank over.
The only way I have found of clearing the issue is to dissconect and re-connect battery several times while leaving key in ignition switched on.
After doing this I can usually get system to revert to correct staus and everything is hunky dorry for a while. Has anybody experienced this fault before and is there a solution other than putting car in dealers for a big bill!!
Hoping for some knolegable person to help on this one. Please !!!!
Regards Doug.

On that car, you have three possibilities. Either you KEY, DAS Module (Immobilizer Module), or the ME-SFI (Engine Control Module). The key has a chip embedded in it, and when you turn the key, it sends out an RF Frequency signal and the Engine Control Module has to receive the right signal. IF NOT, the INJECTORS will NOT WORK!!! My suggestion is try another key, if it won't work, then that narrows down to two problems. Process of ELIMINATION...

take care,

Thanks Mar, I do have two keys for car and fault has occured using either key.
I have even re set keys as you would after battery replacement, so I guess it is not a key fault. So this leaves either the ECM or Das module.
Please can you tell me the location of these conponents so i can investigate.
Many thanks for your help!

DAS Module I believe is behind the Instrument Cluster. ME-SFI (Engine Control Module) should be right front under the hood.
