Default ABS / ASR Problem '98 C200 HELP !

Hello All,

I've been having a problem with my ABS system where it functions sometimes and doesn't most of the time. I also noticed that when it's not working my ASR OFF button does not work, i.e. when I push the button to turn ASR off nothing happens (the light on the switch should come on and the yellow triangle on the dashboard too). The cars drives normal with no other problems. I get no lights or warnings that ABS is off. I only know when I slam the brakes.

Thanks

brake light switch is okay?

Hi Sleepwalker,

What do you mean by the brake light switch? Is it the switch connected to the pedal? The brake lights are functioning.

thanks

yes, on the brake pedal. you can see it from lever. (maybe you need to remove the cover under dash).

it's two contacts.

*normally open
*normally close

nomally open goes for the brake lamp signal, while normally close for abs, asr, esp, etc on traction.

am going to sleepwalk now.

if the switch is okay, the next thing to check is the wheel speed sensor... especially the front left.

compare the resistance reading (ohm) with other sensors.

Ok this what happened. I managed to get the car diagnosed. Got two error codes on the ASR/ABS system. Sure enough the first one was the brake light switch. Got that replaced, and checked the speed sensors. All is good and all under $30 (advantages of living in Jordan )

However the problem didn't get fixed.

Now the bad news, the second code: ASR solenoid RR can't keep pressure. What could be wrong there? What do I need to check?

that can be from the wiring to the hydraulic unit itself.

am still on travel and cannot check the diagram now. maybe you need to remind me later.

Checked the wires going to the solenoid main unit and found a faulty ground. Cleaned it up and everything is fixed.
