prebuying research
Hey guys I was just wondering about a 2002 c230 kompressor. I am looking at possibly trading in my GTO and getting a 2002 c230 kompressor with a 6-speed manual in it. I was just looking for some imput on car owners already. Some possible problems or commong problems they might have, possible upgrades, buying neccessities right away and other things on those topics. The car has about 45000 miles on it and all of your help would be much appreciated. Also what would you guys think would be a good buying price for them.
Thanks again
Kyle

OK>here's my take on this. Right now, the "dealers" are not going to give you too much for your GTO. They are going to whine
and cry and tell you "there's no market for these types of vehicles right now" and "people want more gas-efficient cars" and every
other line you can imagine. My favorite is, "OH, we're going to have to find a wholesaler who will buy your car", etc. I love that one.
Anyway, that being said, you can research what your GTO is worth or any other car, including the C230K, on sites such as www.edmunds.com or www.cars.com or another one that is popular would be www.kbb.com for Kelley Blue Book. Now, as far as the C230K goes, there are going to be lots of opinions on this one. In a nutshell, you might get a car that lasts forever without any problems. And you might not. I know that doesn't really help you, but it's so true with most cars. The little superchargers on the 4-cyl. motor make a bit of noise, but they can also deliver between 25-28 mpg in the city and over 33 mpg on the highway. I have an '05 that will do that and it has 132,000 miles on it as we speak. If it were me, before I bought the MB, I would have somebody look it over and check the history of that particular car to see what's been done. And what hasn't. I have a ton of posts on this site to tell you what I had done and did myself to keep it going to this stage. One thing you would have would be this site to come into and ask questions about your car. We try to help just about everybody when we can. I've found it great. Hope this helps you out.

As mrcoyote stated the dealers will definately throw out that excuse as I went through it with a local dealership. When it comes down to it you will get more for your $$ selling it on your own rather then trading it in and settling for what the dealer is going to offer which is pretty pathetic. If trading it in is your only alternative then make sure you will get at least close to what you are wanting value wise for your trade otherwise don't take it personal when they come back with the trade figures.I opted to go to a local MBZ dealership for a certified used vehicle plus they offered me extended manufacturers warranty on top of what was left ona 2005 C230 K. The lifetime warranty is definately a plus "but" make certain they go over what is covered under this extended warranty
. Price wise they are not bad compared to Acura or Toyota if not the same. Good luck on your purchase.

I currently own a 2002 Sport Coupe with automatic, panoramic sunroof, leather, heated seats, CD changer and BOSE.
The 2002 is a unique car both for its engine and numerous small standard items that were made options in subsequent years.
Mine does not have electric seats or the Evolution Pkg. It is Burgundy Red over Black
The 2.3L 4 is supercharged and winds out 192HP and 200 lb.ft.of torque. It is extremely agile and handles on a par or better than my BMW but the coupe has a superior, comfortable ride. The BOSE is far superior to the BMW Harmon Kardon.
The supercharger is slightly noisy when cold since the car revs higher and engages the supercharger in order to warm up the catalytic converter. Once it settles down so does the noise. It is never noisy in the cabin.
I have had a number of odd-ball things go wrong with the car but 2002 was the first year and mine was one of the first produced. Search under my name for a list of problems. All items were repaired under warrantee.

Above post is missing info but system will not allow a longer post.
However, I have never had problems with the engine or transmission and the car has never left us stranded.
The city mileage is poor based on one-way trips of only 7km (4.3mi) in heavy city traffic. On the odd occasion we have taken it on the highway, the mileage is excellent and the car is fun to drive.
Here in Toronto on AutoTrader.caprices range from $8500 to $15,995. All prices are Canadian The average price is $13,300 and the average km is106,000km (65,700mi).
