Default RE: Oil in the wiring loom

believe it or not, i was just at my merc mechanic today and we had a vey similar dicsussion. he worked for MB for many years until he started his own shop. only works only on MB. we weretalking about the tranny fluid and if i should replace mine. he mentioned that i should and i should replace the seals as well. he told me he had a number of cars come in for mystery tranny troubles. so he decided to check the tanny computer. when he pulled it out, he noticed it was soaked in tranny oil. he told me that he called the dealer and they confirmed his was a design flaw. the plug that connects the computer wires to the tranny has a seal that goes bad and the oil leaks by and travels up the wire loom to the computer. he replaced the seal and the computer and cleaned out the wire loom and it was solved. maybe this is the same or similar prob u are having. just thought i'd mention it so u can bring it up to ur mechanic. i am by no means mechanically inclined and i'm only repeating what i heard today. it sound very similar to the prob u may be having.
