Oil Consumption
I have a 2002 C320 that seems to be consuming a lot of oil. I have not yet checked under the car for an oil leak but plan to do that this weekend. I thought I would put this out there to see what people thought. The car has 83K, runs smooth, and idles fine with no smoking.
First, according to the manual the oil measurement should read either, OK, Add 0.5, Add 1.5 or Add 2.5 qts. My wife got a low oil warning, yet when I checked it, the computer said add 1.5 qts. Any thoughts on this?
Over the last 3000 miles I’ve added 2 qts of oil. Car is paid for, thinking about trading it in?
Also, sometimes when trying to check the oil I get a message “Perf. Serv. On Time” Anyone else ever get this?
Thanks for the help

RE: Oil Consumption
OK firstly, Perf Sefvice on Time - this is because you're trying to check the oil too soon after turning the engine off.
Ideally, it should be checked after the car has been parked overnight for a true measurement of the oil in the sump.
Regarding Oil consumption, 0.5 to 1 litre every 1000 miles is what is quoted as normal in the hand book.
However - check the grade, you will find MB in Europe suggest Mobil-1 0w40 for all V6 engines, and yes this applies to the rest of the world, including the USA.
My C320 now has 143500 miles on the clock, and does not use anywhere near the quoted consumption, but bear in mind driving style - especially when the engines cold will have an influence.
Best of luck
