Hi guys, i'm new here so i apologise if i'm going to ask a question already asked before. I did serach the forums but did not find the answer.

Ok here it goes (don't laugh). I have a 2001 C240. My full warranty is over but is till have a year of the MB "major component" warranty left. Last month i went to the dealer complainng about clunking noises from the front. They went ahead and replaced the sway bar links and rod and charged me for the repair. I asked them if the item should not be covered by the major component warranty, and they said no, it's not covered.

I just found my warranty booklet and realised that a lot of stuff is covered. Under the suspension it says that the stabilizer bars are covered. Now here is the stupid part of my question:

isn't a sway bar the same as a stabiliser bar?

No, if you have the Starmark component, warranty as I have until the end of the week. Most suspension parts are not covered unless they are manufacture defects, as most suspension parts move in some way and movement causes wear. It's geared more toward engine parts, tranny and drive train. Most suspension parts wear. Yes you could use the same argument on the engine as most of the inners are moving parts, but with my 1999 V6 C Class, Mercedes had some blown engine problems so, the warranty was extended to 150K miles and I got a $30 discount on a oil change. The V6 is a strong engine and it is well maintained, so I don't think it will fail. I had a bad O2 sensor and MAS both of which were covered by the component warranty.

 

Thanks, by reading the warranty i was under the impression that everything on the list shoud be covered. it's standard mercedes benz component warranty (5 yr / 120.000 km) that came with all 2001 here in canada.
The dealers argument was that the sway bar and components are not on the list of covered parts, but the warranty does list stabilizer bar. I was just wondering wasnt that the same thing.

the stabilizer bar link is not included in warranty because it is a part that can wear out normally. however, if they replace it for less than 1 month and gets damaged, then it is under "parts warranty".
