New tires - C230 coupe
I need to replace the tires on my 2003 C230 Coupe. At 15,000 miles they're nearly slick in the back and I am not an aggressive driver. The OEM tires are ContiSport Contact 2 225/45 17 91W. I live in the Dallas area and drive mostly city miles on freeways & toll roads. Is this the best I can expect for tire life? Any suggestions on replacement tires would be appreciated... I've been looking at Kumho, but was told today they're on backorder and I really can't afford to wait any longer. Thanks for any assistance!

I think 15,000 miles is reasonable for those tires.
My first set of michelin pilot sport wore out at around 20k miles, 2nd set was Pirelli Pzero Rosso, they lasted only 10k, now I am on my third set of tires, back to Michelin again.
You may want to look for tires with high treadwear number. Supposely, tires with treadwear 500 is suppose to last 5 times longer than tires with treadwaear 100.

I am on my second set of Conti contact but 215.45.15 and the first set I got 43K miles, I personally am a big fan of these thires, I live in New England, do mostly city and some highway, I also inflate the tires 4PSI about recommeded, and it seems to belong wear and the car handles a bit better around turns, no difference in ride quality. My daugther put on a set of Toyo Prioxs or something like that, pricey, but after 15K no tire wear at all I can see or even mesure using the old penny way. She as a 01 Neon and the ride quality has improved 75% with these tires. They are also the official tire of the SCCA or one of those racing group. If I keep my 99 C280 long enough I might try a set of the Toyo. My wife has Yoko AVS, she gets around 35K on a set, but she has a heavy foot, we call her speed racer. She drive a 94 Audi 100S wagaon, FWD

Thanks guys. Guess it's just the nature of the 'beast'. Glad to hear good reports on the Pilot Sports. Hadn't considered Toyo's but they may be worth a look.
Wizard, you said '... I also inflate the tires 4PSI about recommeded...' did you mean above? And '... it seems to belong wear...'. You lost me there.

You will have to excuse me, it was early this morning when I wrote the post. What I meant to say is I inflate my tires 4PSI above the stock recommendation, printed in my case on the gas door, I find the tires last longer and handle better and wear more evenly. I hope this make sense?

Here you can research tires and read reviews from other people. I'm getting to the point where it's time to get new tires as well. I can't remember what's on the car now other than it's Michelins, and I've racked up 38K miles and probably won't get new tires for another 10K.
So you guys who're talking about getting 10K or 15K miles on your tires... What the heck are you doing to them?
By the way, I have an 02' C230 coupe.

I buy all my tires for all the cars in the family from TireRack.com, I deal with Reggie, he took good take of my when I got my last set of Conti's, I have one that was our of round, and they paid for the rebalancing, until the installer determinded the tire was out of round; and of course shipped at no charge a new tire and paid to have it balanced directly to the installer, which was one of their recommende ones by the way. I would stick with a recommended installer if there are any in your area, as it is a lot easier to work thru them and tire rack.
