Hello ladies and gentleman I am new here on this forum I have two 97 C230-s one wreked and one still running good with 288000 miles and counting.I am looking for a 97 or around that year C230 that has a bad engine or transmission .My wife wrecked hers in December and it is pretty messed up so I was thinking if I would find a C230 with a bad engine or bad transmission for a reasonable price I would buy to swap the engine,I dont care if the interior is not that nice becouse mine has a perfect interior.I just cannot junk this car it ran so nice and still does I really enjoyed driving it,so if anybody knows one in the midwest I would be interested I live in Arlington Heights ,IL so if I would find one not too far from here 5-600 miles radius it would be great.
Happy new year to everybody.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
Wow, a C230 with 288,000 miles. Great!
I'm trying to think of the best way for you to find a reasonable replacement for the wrecked car to put an engine in. It's not
every day that this forum sees this kind of post, so you may be the first! My first thought is that you may have to run a small
ad somewhere that people who would have such a thing would be exposed to it, but I'm having problems nailing it down as to
where that would be. This forum is a good start. I'll keep this in mind and try to come up with another idea for you if I can.
Since it has to be fairly local, have you considered a "wanted" ad in the local paper....maybe in the automotive section if there is such a thing? This may take you a while to find....since it's a Mercedes....

Also, could you post some information on your "maintenance" schedule for the C230 w/ high miles? I'm sure a lot of people here
(including myself) would love to know what kind of maintenance, oil changes, type of oil, etc. and frequency of oil changes you have been on to achieve this kind of mileage. I know I would. Any other tips on what had to be replaced would be great too.

And I'll keep working on how best to find you a car w/ a bad engine or tranny.

Thanks for the info I will try post in the local papers and craigslist too.The car with the 288000 the only thing been done regularly is oil change every 5000 miles along with filter now it needs badly front end work like ball joints and it has a weird screaching noise allmost like two metals would chafe together only when I back up and brake,I pulled the whole suspention off and nothing is loose and I could find nothing broken or cracked.
