I have a 96 C 280 and the wiring harness for the engine has burnt up. I have 2 questions, 1 is this a common problem, & 2 , what years are compatible with this 96? I found a 98 in the junk yard that I can get the harness of off but I don't know if it'll work. also it seems like maybe the burning up originated from the spark plug coil pack wires. thanks for any help

 

as far as i know 96 and 98 are diffrent motors in the USA

You will have to check by your VIN# and part # on the harness. There were several different versions. The part # on the harness is by the main ECU connector. It's a white tag. I recently rebuilt the wiring harness on my 95. When I was checking around, it appears you have to be very careful on which harness you get since there were minor differences made throughout.
