Looking at a 2001 C240
I'm looking at a 2001 C240 with 38272 miles for $17,900. That's not really a bad deal. Does anybody have any advice on what to look for when I inspect and test drive it? I know to check the transmission, the oil, the exhaust smoke, etc, but I'm just trying to get as much advice as possible from knowledgable c-class people.
Does the c-class transmission fluid have a dipstick?

Naz,
So if the 2001 c240 passes the following three tests, it should be okay to buy and won't cost a fortune to repair:
1.) climate control/air vents are working properly
2.) no click click sound from dashboard after starting ignition
3.) no noises from front while driving
thanx...

By "the climate control being damaged" do you mean that I would have no heat or AC? Or do you mean that only the precise control of the heat and AC would be out (still leaving me with heat and AC)? I never really cared for the climate control feature... as long as I have heat and AC that blows. So if I want to NOT fix the damaged climate control, will I still have heat and AC alone?

Hi,
Be wise when you make that deal, I have a friend that just had one with 40,000 mileage. Look really good, no problem found at the beginning.2 months later, engine light came on. At this moment, the dealer advised him to change it. So, make sure you make the right deal.
