Default Headrest repair question

Ok, so neither of the headrest adjustments are working. The motor runs but it won't go up or down. So I took off the back of the seat and I found the problem. The little black plastic piece that slides up and down on the gear has come off of the gear. Does anyone know how to get it back on? The piece has teeth on it that mesh with gear, but the for about a half inch on the top and bottom it's solid(no teeth) and I can't slide this part passed the gear. I would love to know how to get it back on. It's not even that I would use the adjustment, but knowing I can't is driving me crazy. Thanks.

I feel your pain. However, if its stuck in the lowest position and you're not a giant, I'd resign myself to the situation-provided you don't fiind an easy or inexpensive solution.Like you, I want everything working as it should whether I use it or not. My older brother, who is just as much a perfectionist as I am gave me some good advice. When owning out of warranty items that are expensive to repair, its good to develop an attitude that things don't have to be perfect for you to enjoy it. I think he might be right.

Sounds like a recurring problem on 1998 280 sports
The driver's side headrest is stuck on the highest position and I'm 6'3" so I live with it
