Exclamation Ghost in the Machine - very odd window behavior '99 c280

Hi all,

1999 c280 United States specification

109,000 miles

Today suddenly the driver's side window refused to work (key on or position 1) and a check of fuses 7 and 8 under the hood revealed no problem.

So, i tried the infrared using the key remote that should operate all windows - nothing! The sunroof and all four windows were inop!! (they work manually however - just the driver's window is inop from inside the car)

Then I used the metal blade key - and the driver's window worked....but NOT the other three or the sunroof (all should work with the key)

What a mystery!! Any suggestions on this odd problem?

I'm suspecting a door harness flaw - as it appears that driver's door is somehow isolating itself from the other parts of the circuit and the switch (console mounted) - but where to begin?

btw - once in a rare while the driver's door seat electrics are inoperative for a couple of miles..... but as I said, not a common problem.

HELP"

Sounds like you have a bad door control module. You could also have something taking down the CAN or the network. Your best bet is to have someone with a diagnostic tool look to see if the CAN has faults and diagnose the problem. I have seen things like rear window motors take down the CAN and cause driver windows and seat stop working. Good Luck!
