Default Gas Gauge

Someone help me out please...

Today I went to fill my tank from 1/4 full. It got to about 9.5 gallons and then clicked off. I left the key advanced while I filled the tank (so the kids could still watch TV.) When I went to leave I noticed the gauge was only at 3/4. It slowly went up as I drove but still never got to complete full. Anyone ever hear of this? It is a 98' C230 with 48k miles.

Thanks,
Turned out it was an over sensitive gas pump. Drove 200 miles and went to refill and all was fine. I guess the W202 can do this in certain circumstances with certain pumps.
