Fan switch on 1998 C180 Elegance Auto (Facelift model?)
Hi All,
I have a number of problems with my car;
Firstly, my fan switch for the heating/air-con on the centre-dash console, above the stereo, kept cutting out; if you banged the dash, above the switch, it would come back on; it went from working most of the time, to not working most of the time, & now it doesn't work at all (The EC light still comes on though). I'm told it is a common fault, but no local garage will touch it, because they say it is a complete dash-out job.
We are disabled & on benefits, so I would only consider taking it to the main dealers as a last resort - as I am envisaging £80 - £100 per hour, all day (£1,000+) bill for the work, & it is probably just a loose wire or new switch needed.
How do I get that centre switch console out?
I managed to take out the little recess under the stereo, & undo the securing screws holding the lower end of the walnut effect centre console, but cannot get the top free (I tried to lever the air vent out, above the switch, to see if there were any screws hiding under it, but just managed to leave tool-marks on the dash, around the edges of the air vents, but could not remove them).
Any suggestions would be gratefully received, as I'm fed up roasting in the summer, with no air-con, & driving in the freezing cold & rain, with the windows open, in the winter, just to stop the windscreen steaming up so I cannot see out of it.
Secondly, & probably somewhat easier, is my suspension has started to creak as I drive down the road (The car is turning heads alright, but for the wrong reasons, lol).
I had the suspension lubricated, but the creak still came back.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve.
