Default Engine Under-cover

Hi,

On my 1997 C230 there is a good size'd cover under the car, directly under the engine, to catch oil im assuming.

Well, due to agressive driving, its now damaged and off my car.

How important is this undercover?

Thanks,
Evan

i beleive that it is there to protect the oil tank. So, if you hit something, now you can directly damage the oil tank and cause an engine failure.

I just had that whole thing off to do my own oil change to get to the drain plug. I believe these underbelly pans do several things, but one thing they do is keep something nasty from flying up and damaging parts. It happens. There's a TON of junk on the freeways and roads here and I've seen quite a bit of damage from it. Just my thoughts.

Just called my dealer and ordered a new one.

Thanks Kaan & Mrcoyote for the justification!
