Default DTM Cheap-O Muffler

Anyone have any experience with the cheapo DTM mufflers that you can buy on Ebay for like $30?? Obviously I am not expecting any real performance gain from it, but I do kinda like the look. (See attachments - which is not my car, btw.)

I am sold on the look of the muffler, but what I DON'T want is an uber-loud rice burner sound from it. Maybe a little exhaust note is ok, but not the Cessna turboprop sound of the goobers in Hondas and Nissans.

Anyone know what these mufflers sound like?

Default RE: DTM Cheap-O Muffler

I personally havent had a chance to listen to any aftermarket mufflers or exhaust systems on a C-Class Benz, but as far as the 30 dollar knock offs are concerned, I had an opportunity to hear those things on different cars. First things first, they dont have a stable tone to them, meaning that besides the fact that they sound terrible, they sound different at different RPM's. Most of the knock-offs also have poor structures, meaning that they may rust or corrote, and ive heard of some even losing their shape because of the heat. Id definately invest a few more dollars and invest in a Muffler or exhaust designed for the Benz that are made by german companies such as Brabus, AMG, Rieger, etc. Your paying more, but you get your moneys worth and people wont laugh at any funny exhaust noises

Pat - Thanks for the reply. Yeah you're probably right and I was kinda thinking those things... especially about the rust. I will pass on it. The last thing I want is to ghettofy this car. I'll keep my eyes open for a respectable catback system.
