Default 190d 2.5 Turbo- need a muffler, go without a muffler?

Hello, i recently got a 1987 mb 190d 2.5 turbo. my rear muffler was rusted through and just fell off. I can't find any oem or manufactured parts specifically for the car, so i am wondering what i should do next. i was wanting to do the repair myself but i don't know if i just settle for generic/universal parts, or i could just fabricate a new end and leave it without a rear muffler, or i could take it to a muffler store or an mb dealership and pay the price, what should i do? can going without a muffler ruin my car?

Go to the dealership. What you buy there will be better than any part you get someplace else and it will precisely fit your car. It will not really be all that expensive. Of course, you have to remember, you are driving a Mercedes, not a Chevy.
