Default Direction of air vent on C200k

I am unable to direct the air flow in my 2001 200k. It seems to be impoessible to stop air coming out at foot level. It does reduce slightly when screen only is sleected. This means that the iar flow to the face level is reduced. I have re-set the air vents, but has not worked. Does anyone know how I can get access to the airvents?

there's a stepper/actuating motor for each moving flaps to control the air flow..unfortunately the motors are mounted at the air con housing..the only way to get to it is to remove the instrument panel and dash board..

That does not sound good, I don't really want to take the dash out. Thanks, anyway
