Chrome wheels leaking air
I have issue in one of my tires in my 1997 c280 ,I have a leak, every 3/4 weeks I need to put air,my local guy told me this is very well known in MB and BMW with chrome wheels,it loses the sealant, after checking the tire he couldnt find any leaks, then took the rim out and showed me the sealant that falling apart, then he put some stuff around the rim and put my tire back on,told me theres no guaranty how long it will last,
my question to you MB owners,is this normal?did this ever happened to anyone? is there another solution?
thanks

RE: Chrome wheels leaking air
yes, it's original alright.
it's an aluminum disk wheel.
they must have it chromed on some factory.
it looks good.
it will look more better if the side strip is chromed together with door handle and trunk lid grip trim.

RE: Chrome wheels leaking air
previous owner was a 50 year old woman doctor,
I saw when he was working on my rim,he showed me where the sealant was coming off,and took the rest away before putting new stuff on it,anyway my local guy is from Sears, he charged me $18 after working on the rim for 90 mins, didnt think he was trying to rip me off, so far its good, not leaking.

$18 seems right after 90min of service... I paid around there to have them fix mine... Anyhow, that chrome issue is true.. happened to me a year ago.. I guess the chrome gets corroded when the previous owner putused tire sealant to fix his flat...My tire specialist told me that the tire sealant chemical over time ate the chrome! So for those chrome wheel guys out there.. don't use that tire sealant.. use your spare!
