Changing brakes: 2000, C230 kompressor
Hey Friends,

I have got 2000 C230, Sport Edition.

My f**king mechanic killed my car's rear brake discs(rotors), so I have to change those. Just bought Zimmerman's X Drilled performance rotors. Would anyone tell me what would be rotor changing sequence? Step-by-step, please. I believe thereare no tricks in this job according to forum, anyway it is better to know what I should do and what I should not. What special toolsdo I need for this job.

Thank you very much,

RE: Changing brakes: 2000, C230 kompressor
I have changed teh brakes on my 1999 C280. I did rotors and pads. It was not that difficult and I do not have a step by step instructions here but I will tell you a few snags.
1. YOu will need a metric hex key. I am not sure of the size but its pretty big. I went to Sears and bought the hex socket for a rachet and it made things easy. Worth buying.
2. We had a hard time getting the rotors off (they were factory). We used a torch ( I know, but my brother works on cars) to lightly heat the rotor to expand it so it slipped off. We tried a mallet and it did not work so be ready to deal with this.
3. I also bought the brake sensors. They are cheap and might as well replace while you are in there.
I am sure you can find some step by step instructions.. they are all about the same.
Hope this helps.

RE: Changing brakes: 2000, C230 kompressor
calm down, that's easy.
* remove the wheels (you jack up the car if you wish)
*remove brake caliper (you might need to dis-connect the brake hose at brake line and then at fixed caliper. seal off line connections immediately. the fluid reservoir must not be allowed to empty completely.
*release parking brake
*unscrew locking bolt and remove brake disk. if the parking brake drums are run-in, turn back parking brake adjuster, otherwise the parking brake shoes will be damaged or the rotor is difficult to remove.
you can use a heavy hammer to blow the face of the rotor with a sharp and sudden stroke.
if you cannot still do it, then you can't at all.
