Interesting if you read the ad carefully it says it it compatible with 98 and 99 non and fiber optic Mercedes C Class. Then it says farther down not compatible with 2000 fiber optic. I have a 99 C280 and the CD changer is Fiber optic. The car has two fiber optic cables that connect to the CD changer. Very simple install. Read there ad over again as parts don't make sense. I did pick up on the ML Class statement. I assume your 98 is not fiber optic? as the orange fiber optic cables in the trunk disappear into the body and I don't see any connector like that. So that being said, I would call them and make sure. It seems that Mercedes changed to Fiber optic connections sometime in 98. if you click below the picture at the bottom of the page you attached it says you also might be interested in these. There a pic of a CD changer with a wire I think. Then click of CD changer priced at $495.00 the third pages says this CD changer ($495) is cmpatible with 98 and 99 Mercedes benz with fiber optics cables, but the description gets vague. So my advice to you is download the PDF file they offer and make sure you have the right female connection. Also, I thought the fiber optics CD changers weren't offered until ther 99 model year? Always read on. For a non fiber optic changer the price is right. I got my fiber optic changer OEM Mercedes product from a local audio shop and paid $400 with installation. It is a geniune Mercedes products, down to the part number. The dealer doesn't install them but charges about $800 if they take the car over to the audio shop. The salesperson I bought my car from gave me the audio shops card and told me to tell them Chris sent me. He doesn't get commission on this stuff, so he directs his clients to the audio shop and pay a lot less

I ended up going with this unit from Crutchfield. It plugged right in and took about an hour to install in the trunk. Works like a charm! Picked up an additional magazine too. ~$280 for the changer and additional magazine.
