car shuts off
Hey guys,
My mom has a 2000 C280 and recently the car has been shuting off whenever it feels like it, once and a traffic light and the other time on the Garden State Parkway while she was driving!! If you wait a bit after it shuts off it will start and run like nothing has ever happend. I checked for any codes and there where none, any idea at all?
thanks

RE: car shuts off
As information I had a Porsche that did the exact same thing. I had it back to the dealer several times, they replaced sensors at $300 a pop. One day I was driving up interstate 91 and it tied at 65 mph, I was in the center lane and I barely made it to the side of the road and safety, I was surrounded by trucks. After a 1/2 hour is started. I took it to the dealer and they finally found the problem it was a enginer temperture sensors which was located on the back of the engine. If you familiar with Porsche's in order to fix this sensor they had to drop the engine out of the car and then replace the sensor to the tune of $500 plus as I remember. This sensor was designed to shut the air cooled engine down if it overheated. I asked them why they didn't do that the other times. They told me once the engine cooled the sensor test would show it was OK. But if I were your Mom I would get her car to the dealer ASAP. I have a 99 C280 and haven't had a problem like this with the car, but with the Porsche I came very close to having a bad wreck. One other point to the dealer they asked me if the temp guage was in the red when this happened, it wasn't it always was within the normal range. So, they said they didn't suspect that particular sensor, as the temp gauge should have risen toward hot.
