Over the past 3 months I have been having a continouos problem of my car (C270 cdi) getting stuck in second gear. Normally I restart the car, then eveything is fine, however today I couldn't even use my tiptronic shifter to change it.

The car no longer resets as itsstuck in 2nd gear(no tiptronic)

Any ideas what the problem might be please?

is what happens with those 722.6 trans is when there is a problem with it it goes into a fail safe mode that is second gear and ever 3rd gear take it to the dealer and have them check the codes. did you check engien lite come on as well

 

the most common problem is a conductor plate in the tranny. it houses all the sensors and solenoids that make the trans function. if this car was at my shop i would check the plug that goes into the trans for oil wicking out of the trans. i have seen this wick all the way to the tcm. then conductor plate, and while that was off, i woul chec for lateral movement of the mainshaft up inside the trans. they had a boatload of updates for that 722.6. bottom line is if you dont change the fluid at least every 60k, the trans thrust bushings get sloppy and move the shutter out of the window of the sensor on the conductor plate. then the tcm freaks out and goes into limp in mode.

thats just a scenario.

take it to someone with SDS and they can determine the mechanicalhealth of the tranny by looking at the scan data, then focus on electrics.

Never believe the "lifetime fluid fill" bull****. My manual calls for a trans fluid and filter change at 39K.
