Default c220 engine problem

Hello every body,

I have C220 model 1996, the engine is running very well during acceleration but when the speed is fixed the engine begins to cut continuously and if I accelerate again the problem disappears. Any way I took it for a computer test and it gave the following faults:
1- Engine idle speed contact throttle valve position too large.
2- TPM, EFP controller announces failed – safe operation.
3- Idle contact switch bad contact.

I took it to two mechanics and they couldn’t find out the problem. Can any one please help me or at least suggest any thing

Thanks to all

was the throttle valve cleaned well?

dirt and sludge can block the idle position on the throttle valve and makes the opening wider when actually it is restricted. since the idle speed switch is inside, it send wrong signal to ecu.

was it hard starting without stepping on the accelerator?

Thanks a lot sleepwalker
Actually the throttle valve was not cleaned I intend to clean it my self, can you please tell me the location of the valve, can I clean it my self or it’s difficult to do so?

The starting of the engine is not hard and its done without stepping on accelerator, also the engine idle running is very smooth. Do you think it could be the throttle valve dirt or slug?
Thank you again

Hi,

Does the engine cut-off if vehicle is gradually coming to a stop or at a stop lets say at traffic lights.
If so try this just to check at the lights put gear in parking or neutral to see if problem still exists.

I suspect it is the AIR MASS FLOW METER. I had a similar problem on my vehicle and spent pretty close to $900 at the dealer changing a number of things before they came up with that suggestion.

I actually bought a AIR MASS FLOW METER on the internet and got it replaced for me by a mechanic for $15, no issue since.

Hi
What you said about slowing down does not happen, the engine only starts to jitter when the car runs on steady speed rpm between 2 to 3
