Default c180 -94 rpm goes up and down in cold weather

My c180 esprit -94 has a problem in cold weather (-10C and below).
When I drive slowly there is no problem but when I drive faster than 80km/h and then slow down or stop the engine rpm starts to go up and down between 1000 and 3500 rpm.
If I drive slowly and bring the rpm to 3000 or 4000 rpm the problem does NOT apear, so it probably has something to do with the wind speed when I drive faster.

Does any one have a similar problem or sollution for this?

Hi

If it was me I would check these few things.

1, Make sure all the air intake ducts are on place and are not leaking.[>:]

2, Put a really thin film of Vaseline (petrolium jelly) around both sides of the sealing faces of the air filter.

3, Get the MAF sensor checked or that the sensor wire/connector are all in place, replace sensor or get it checked by the MB dealer.[:@]

Best of luck and keep us all posted.

PeterBrooklyn.

Thanks for the advice!

I would need some advice to find the MAF and its connection?
Is it easy to reach and where is it placed?

I'm not sure where it is on your particular model,

However you can be sure it will be either built into the air box assembly or on the duncting from the air box to the injection system.

Some help here would be great for you from some of the members with scematic diagrams.

Try a search on google.com - maybe lucky!!

FYI MAF = Mass Air Flow, nothing really complicated, a metal blade that measures the air flow & temperature caused by resistance (temp) of the metal contacts...this could back onto a small 4 or 6 way socket, which would then have the connector to the rest of the loom.

Best of Luck dude
