Default Anti-freeze/Coolant Replacement

Hello,

I own a 2005 C230 Sport Sedan. About a week ago a message saying something about Coolant/Antifreeze appeared on my dashboard. I say 'something about' because I accidentally erased it. I am not sure whether I have to replace/flush my coolant or to add some fresh one...
I went to the local automotive store and the clerk told me not to get the universal or Prestone brands because they could clog the pipes and damage the aluminium parts of the engine.
Anyhow, I guess what I am trying to find is:
1. What was that message that appeared on my dashboard.
2. What is a good coolant/antifreeze I should get.

Thanks fellas!

Thanks chassis221,

I bought my car used so I am not sure what kind of antifreeze the previous owner used and there is no way I can get ahold of him.
It seems to be a highlighter yellow/green lime colour...
Sure I could top it off with another antifreeze, but how compatible would it be with the one I have in my reservoir...?

a little water will be fine just to top off the reservoir. 2or 3 cups maybe. if that.
