Aftermarket Warranty?

Aftermarket Warranty?
All,
I just recently purchased a used '05 C230K with just about 40k miles on it. Factory warranty will expire at 50k, and I'm thinking about purchasing an extended warranty for my ride. The (non-Mercedes) dealer that I purchased the car from offered me an addn'l 2-year 24k mile powertrain warranty for $1,500. They said I could buy it from them anytime until the original warranty expires. I called my local MB dealer and they quoted me about DOUBLE for the same thing.
I think the primary diff between these is that non-MB dealer is selling an 'acme brand' warranty - while MB is quoting an actual MB extended warranty.
My main goal here is not to buy bumper to bumper coverage. I'm more concerned about 'insurance' against loosing an engine, tranmission, the kompressor? So really I want 'major mechanical' coverage - not lightbulbs. Make sense?
Thoughts, tips, suggestions, (jokes?) all appreciated!

RE: Aftermarket Warranty?
My main concern, if I was you, is to also buy insurance for the ELECTRICALS. Not just the drivetrain. I would not waste $1500 to warrant the drivetrain from 50k to 75k miles. I would want to warrant everything. I would also want the warranty with MBZ not some third party unknown.
My opinion.

RE: Aftermarket Warranty?
Maybe this will help and I'm not too late.
I just purchased an aftermarket warranty for my 2000 c230 kompressorthat is very comprehensive, all electricals, superchargers etc.. It is a four year unlimited mileage for $1,795.00 . I hope that I didn't throw my money away, however I drive approx. 40,000 miles a year. The company is Great Lakes Warranty Corporation out of Pittsburg, Pa. and registered with the BBB.
