there has been a service measure on air mass sensor wiring harness on your model.

if the value is too high, the air mass sensor needs replacement.

have you tried using different resistance on that refference resistor?

if the mixture is too lean, enrich it a little.

was it hard starting? throttle valve cleaned on inside?

I just went through the posts again and didn't notice anything about plugs being changed or checked, even though they were suspected as a cause. Did I miss something?

Remove your plugs and check the porcelain parts for cracks. They will show because there will be burn marks from arcing. Check the electrodes to make sure they were firing (not fouled).

If you have a multimeter check the plug wires for resistance. sleepwalker can tell you the resistance. It's probably around 5K to 8K ohms.

Ok back to the shop this AM, told the service manager I was PISSED... Shop foreman said he didn;t think it was the wires...so back to the MAF....
I guess they see how much i am willing to pay....

Yes plugs were checked by the shop ( so they say) and all were good....

I am really starting to want to sell this ASAP!!!!

Plugs and wires were the first things checked (or was that directed at the post by C280?). While this is my first MB, previously I've owned a long list of Audi's and VW's - therefore I've spent many a late night deciphering mysteries and always start with the basics.

We adjusted the software in the ECU and couldn't fix the problem. Because the problem increased in regularity over time, I don't think it was the software, I think it was the slow degeneration of the ECU. I'll have a new one in this weekend and get back to y'all Monday (hopefully after driving to work in MY OWN vehicle!)

Thanks for all your help
