Default 2004 C240 Smart Key not recognized

Hello all,
I am new to this forum & am looking for a little advice. I have a 2004 C240 which has been parked in my garage for several months. Yesterday when I went to start it, it would not recognize the key. Nothing happens when I put it in the EIS. I have read that battery voltage may be the problem. I show 12.4 volts on my volt/ohm meter across the terminals. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?
Thanks.

sounds like everything is ok with the battery but you could need a jumper pack. if its been sitting for a few months itll need to be jumped...its a benz.also try leaving the key in the ignition for a several seconds first before trying to crank it.

Thanks for the quick reply, chassis221. I did try jumping it. It is not seeing the key, so I can't even turn it to position 1, much less to crank it...
