Default CD Changer Not Recognized

I recently purchased at 1994 S500. It has an Alpine 6-disc changer in the trunk. The installation looks good, it ejects the cartridge to load the cds, but when I press the CD button inside the car...nothing happens. I can get everything else to work including the annoying weather station, but I don't even get an error message period. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. THanks

I tried pressing the CD button in the car with and without the magazine. Nothing at all happens. The radio just keeps playing its station. Any other ideas? Thanks.

it doesn't recognize the cd changer indeed.

you may start by checking the line between the two for continuity.

After a bit of whining to the dealer that sold me the car, I took it to his radio installer. As sleepwalker suggested there was a problem with the wiring harness. It took about two minutes to fix and it works great. Thanks for the help. Case Closed!

I had this problem with the CD Changer in my 99 C280, it was a Mercedes changer. The dealer changed it and a few months later it started do no changer again. Back tot he dealer. The told me it was something in the radio head. I had it replaced, no warranty $1000 including labor for a new radio. It has worked fine for the past 2 years. the other day, the No Changer came on. I went back to the trunk stuck my hand down and made sure the fiber optic cable were connected. The changerls use push in connectors. After that it has worked OK. BUT this is how the first problem started. So I would look to the radio head.

As a matter of fact yes. I had a knee operation to remove a tumor, fix a torn ligament and a broken synovial sac. So Excuse me if I didn't proof read this post. But the knee really hurt for about a week.
