Thanks for the reply but I still don't see it. I see the power steering pump bracket to the right attaching it to the block. The coolant hose is behind the PS pump and the alternator is below. Don't see anything under the exhaust manifold or below the alternator either. I think I'm looking for a canister for the filter, but I don't see that or a screw-on filter.

Thanks in advance!

You did not see it because you approached the car like a Detroit make.

It is not under or on the side.

It is on the top.

It looks like an up-side-down can with a plastic bottom.

Use your eyes, just scan the top surface of the engine. Think less and you shall see.

Filter is not a problem here. The problem is newer Benz engines are designed in a way that draining the oil is not encouraged. Oil is supposed to be sucked out via dip stick hole.

On my 202, I have to remove the plastic cover under the oil pan if I want to drain. The screws and the nut-kind-of-catch plates holding the plastic cover are not designed for frequent removals. Is it the same way on 203, Sleep?

Geno,
I just completed an oil change on my 02 C-240 yesterday. The previous post is right, the oil filter is on top, and as you face the car, it should be on the right. It is a cap, because it takes a paper filter. Mine is directly in front of the oil fill cap. It should have a torque setting written on it, with an arrow showing which way to tighten it. It is true that they usually suck the oil out the top, but if you only take off the back protective plate, there is less bolts to remove on the underside. Make sure you have a big enough container, it holds a lot more than my Dodge. Alos be sure to change the O-rings. Hope this helps.

Called the dealer and the canister is supposed to be at the top rear of the engine on the driver's side. It does have a hex nut molded onto the canister top, and when unscrewed comes off with the filter intact. I'll let you know how it turns out. Man....I hated to even call the dealer about this!!!
