Hello;
Sorry if this has already been asked. My check coolant light came on a few days ago on my c230 Coupe, and I was wondering what kind of coolant can I put in this. And can it be purchased at most stores that carry coolant.
Thanks in advance.

OK>here's the deal on the coolant for your car. Mercedes uses their own coolant, which is an amber color instead of what you might be used to seeing. It's NOT the green stuff like Prestone, etc. According to what you can find if you google "Mercedes antifreeze" or "Mercedes Benz coolant" or something like that, the coolant is designed to protect aluminum and some types of "plastic" parts in your cooling system as well as the normal purpose of coolant. Some would say it's OK to top off with the green stuff, but then you'd be mixing the two and I myself wouldn't do it. You can either go to Mercedes parts dept. and pay for one gallon of it (it's in a white jug) or some would have you believe that it's nothing more than ZEREX, which you can buy in the auto parts store for less. Mercedes, of course, will tell you it's NOT. They just told me that.
Of course. So, you can decide for yourself. Another thing I would recommend for sure, is to mix the antifreeze (whatever you use) with distilled water only in a ratio of 50/50. This greatly reduces hard water junk from forming in the system and will probably make your cooling system last longer. You can remove the big black cap on your overflow container only when the car is COLD, and look in there to see how far down the coolant is. Top it off ONLY UP TO THE TOP OF THE BLACK PLASTIC. You will see where it ends when you look in there. You might have a small flashlight handy when you do it. DONT overfill it all the way to the cap!

I have this forum & other as well regarding coolant. I have a 2000 E320. I just bought the Zerex G05 and planning on replacing the coolant. I am just wondering what is the color of the coolant from the jug. I open it and it is colorless, clear. For the guys who have used the Zerex G05, is it really colorless? Thanks.
