2003 C240 - Water-locked engine
My 2003 C240 is dead. Drove through a flooded parking lot (approx. 10 inches deep), water rolled up the bumper, in through the grill and into the air intake ports - never entered the passenger compartment. Engine repair estimates are approaching the book value. What do I do now ?????

mostly get only a bent connecting rod. it's just a minor problem... not unless the connecting rod got broken and damage the crankcase.
i believe, your's is only minor.

I wish...
Dealership yanked the motor, turned it upside down and found 3 broken all others were bent. One of the broken ones scraped the cylinder wall severely. Another broken one chewed up the rim of the cylinder.
Removal and assessment - $1,800
New block and peripherals - $10,500
Re-install - $2,300
Suplementals - unknown
I'm inclined to take the insurance money and sell the carcass to a salvager...

it was either you keep on cranking the engine after it stalled or you were running on high rpm while navigating the flood... which broke the conrods.
this is too much. the new crankcase with pistons fitted is only 2,300 EURO. other things you need were just O/H gaskets, fluids and filters.
if the water penetrates the inside and damaged few control units, then it's possible to reach such price.

Why did you drive thru such deep water, and probably fast? I avoid unknown depth of water like the plague. Especially since it has been raining in New England for the past 4 or 5 days. Some towns have already gotten 18 inches of rain. we are lucky, so far only 6 inches, but it is pouring at the moment.
The local news said this mornng. This is the most rain ever recorded in Mass since the state started keeping records back in 1880.
