2002 C230 Sunroof Malfunction
Hi
We recently purchased a 2002 C230.
Really nice drive !
However, there is a sunroof issue. Open and close work.
BUT if you open too far (About 16 inches), a pair of metal prongs spring upright so when you go to close the roof these remain in the way and wont go down.
You have to stand out of the car with a second person. Hold the prongs down as you electrically close the sunroof.
Any reason why these are springing up out of the track ? And any non dealer way to correct this ?
Thanks in advance

First off, are you referring to the panoramic roof on the coupe?
Its been a few years since I had the same problem. The pieces you are referring to are for the popup at the front of the car by the windshield. You can buy the parts from MB and install them yourself with just a screwdriver as I recall. Use the good side as a guide. I believe you have to push the popup deflector down and replace the entire piece. It took less than a half hour of actual work but longer to think through logically what needed to be done.
I think the piece is just compression fitted and the spring pops up the deflector.
Sorry I can't be more exact but it was amazingly easy to do.
Good luck.

Hi - yes the Panoramic sunroof on the coupe.
But its not the deflector front part its about half way back on the tracks. So can open about 16" and the prongs dont come up so sunroof ok to go back.
Any further the prongs come up proventing closure of the sunroof unless physically hold them down as you electrically close it

The prongs I am talking about are halfway back in the track and start to rise as the front deflector begins to pop up. If you check carefully they only are there for the deflector. They are about 16 to 18 back in the track, As you stated, they stay out of the way until the roof opens further. I think we are talking about the same thing.
