RE: 2000 c230 won't take fuel!
there is a breather pipe beside the filler neck.
make sure it's not clogged and air can freely pass.

RE: 2000 c230 won't take fuel!
you got it.
it is made of rubber, so there's a chance that it got kinked.
best way is to lower down the whole tank.
run it empty first.
you may see a small hole also if you look closely inside the filler neck. if you can run air through it (without the gasoline splashing back on your face), you may feel if it's restricted.
remember not to join darwin awards when handling flamable substance.

I absolutely agree with Sleepwalker on -- to making sure the breather pipe (the return or whatever cute name it might have) is not restricted by any means.
I want to add a few points before you go ahead with a big job. (Perhaps this will save you the hassle of a fuel tank disassembly job.)
It has been my experience that domestic and Japanese cars have wide fuel ports and never have any problem with triggering the gas-pump nozzles immaturely.
I face difficulty with BMWs and MBs. These cars trigger the nozzle-stop way too early and often. I often play with the position or the way I insert the nozzle into the fuel port. Do that and you will notice that certain positions are simply better for some cars than the others. I have also found out that some gas station nozzles are more sensitive than the others. So try different gas stations. It might yield some results.
If you have tried all the above and are still having trouble -- chances are you do have problems with fuel-tank line assembly. In that case, foget what I said and forgive me for saying.

I have a 2000 c230 Kompressor and have had the same problem. I finally figured out that if I slightly pull out the fuel pump just a bit it works just fine. Got tired of doing that and decided use a piece of 1/4 inch fish tank airaetor hose to slightly extend the breather out away from the pump and look ma no more hands.
