You say you got a new "decal"? You lost me there. Anyway, if there are three "prongs" holding the
star on without the circle around them, you need to gently pry the star away from the trunk using
a soft plastic pry tool. DO NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER as you know. They make these pry tools for
just this purpose.....assuming this is a press-in "prong" that holds the emblem. I don't know if it is or not
without seeing it, but if it's not double-sticky tape, that's what it is. You have to go slowly around it and
make sure not to damage the paint. Expensive mistake if you do. Anything stuck on any car with that
factory double-sticky tape stuff needs to be HEATED GENTLY with a hair dryer before being pulled off.
DO NOT USE A HEAT GUN EVER. Only the pros know how much heat it takes before damaging the paint
and they do it every day. We don't. I've done it many times with a hair dryer though. So, although this
does not apply to you, I mention it for others in the future just in case.
PS>these plastic sticks with flat ends are available at a lot of auto body supply houses and most all
glass shops have plastic sticks with flat pointy ends they will sell you. Glass installers use them to work
on a variety of auto glass jobs.

Thanks for the info. I did gently pry it out without any damage . But the expected happened.. the new trunk ornament does not contour to the body like my old one did...it just doesn look right..the old one also had the adhesive you were talking about, the new one one didnt...it's hard to describe but the top of the old ornament sort of wrapped onto the top of the trunk. this one is sticking up..very unsighlty..i dont know if i should take it into the dealr or not..can't stand it too much longer
Thanks for your advice
Thanks for your advice
if the new badge doesn't contour to the trunk, abvious you didn't get the right one. when buying new things like this from mercedes take your vin number in and there should be no issues. but if you bought from ebay or something like that you may have bought the wrong one even tho it may have said c230 on it.
