1998 C230 do you know?
Hello all, I recently sold my 85 300d and am missing it, but it went to a in-law and he is enjoying it so it makes me feel a little better. I miss having a Mercedes all ready. Ok, to my question. I found a 98 C230 that is a little sick, 150k, but the price could be right. Here is my questions it's got electical bugs. Im pretty handy so it dont scare me, but wanted to know if anyone knows the workings or where to look. the windows and the turn signals. The owner reports that it is the left turn signal is not working. They also said that the windows also would work with the key, but no longer do. They feel th issue is under the dash. If they are right , I am thinking the problem was small and white with a tail. Any ideas would be helpful and thanks.
after talking to him some more i can rule out furry creatures. i found that the left turn signal quit working some time ago. it just stays on from what the say. they informed me that if they pull the fuse and turn the hazard lights on, the right side lights. this is problem 1. after this i guess the sunroof was left open in the rain and then in time the windows and door locks quit working. not sure if they are related or not. they have been driving it up until last week when the drivers windows stopped up halfway. i dont see how the door lock are related because aren't they operated by a vac. pump?
I make it a rule to change out ALL of the fuses when I first buy a "new-to-me" car. A fuse can look perfectly fine but might not be.
Buy a can of electrical contact cleaner spray too. Spray the spot(s) where the fuse came from and slide the new fuse in and out a couple of times to clean to clean up the contacts. Electrical gremlins can be VERY frustrating but if you invest $15-20 in this little trick, you might save yourself a lot of time, money and grief.
