Default 1996 Mercedes C280, W202 will not start.

I hope someone can help me, the engine turns over when starting but it will not start. The red & green lights on the mirror are alternately flashing. I know this is the indication of the problem, but finding a solution is something else. The remote works fine in unlocking and locking all features of the car.

I have tried:
1) Replacing the batteries in both sets of keys for the car. (A suggestion from sleepwalker)
2) Resynchronize the transmitters(several times) and tried a multitude of ways of unlocking the car.
3) Inspected and reseated the RCL,ECM,DAS,all the wiring harness connectors.
4) Did a short and open test the Can Data Lines, High and Low.
5) I show no DTC faults. (elcheapo HHT model, may not be accurate).
6) Replaced the ignition switch. (A wild guess)

I thought buying this car for my daughter was a good idea for safety and reliability issues. I thought I would enjoy working on the "ultimate automobile" but it has turned into something else. It sits in my garage now, dead. My daughter is not happy with me or the car.
I am embarrassed, I have never had a car kick myass like this one.

I cannot find any information on how the system works.(Except the vague information I have on this maintenance CD, what a rip off!) I understand the infared part, I think. (It unlocks/locks the car.) Is there more? Like RF (Radio frequency) to start the car? Is that why sleepwalker was so intent for me to change batteries in the transmitter? If there is an RF receiver, where is it? Where is the antenna for the receiver?

Any helpwill be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Save yourselves some money. Overvoltage Relay. Cheap, and you can change it yourself. It cost more to find the problem then to fix it.
