Default 1996 e300d wont start possible start lockout?

I have a 1996 e320d that wont start. its been parked for a couple of months and when i went to start it the red and green lights on the mirror are flashing. the motor cranks but does not fire. was reading my manuel, think it may be the start lockout function? anyone out there with same problem. also in the past it randomly shut down and did the same thing but reset after a few crank attempts

Default e300d alternating red green

1996 e300d here. Had same problem. Simultaneous blinking red & green lights indicate a weak remote key fob battery or weak main battery. Check and replace as needed.

Alternating red & green blinking lights indicates an unauthorizede start attempt (part of anti-theft system). Typically, engine will turn over but will not fire. Do the following: (1) check main battery and replace if weak, (2) replace remote key fob batteries if the remote does not lock & unlock car, if the remote does not work, repair (good video on YouTube) or replace, (3) try reauthorizing remote to immobiliser system (instructions in manual) and (4) with flat key, lock and unlock car several times manually from outside the car.

If none of the above works, next on the list is replacing the k40 relay (overvoltage relay) module.

In my case, once I replaced k40, all was well. Cost was about $150 from dealer.

on mine, i have to get out and turn the put the key in the drivers door and turn it left. then it cranks.

should not have any blinking lights.

wish there was a way to remove it all together, I hate it.
