1995 C280 A/C blower and regulator
getting the run around from mechanic and dealer with wild quotes and different stories.
First up.The air con was working but not out the centre vents so took it to mechanic who said dash needs to come out to get to the vacum control behind vent and replace it, in the meantime he disconnected it until new part arrived. Bythe time I took it back the blower ceased working so i say reluctantly, yes go ahead and fix it.
Then he calls to sayblower motor is shot and can get non original replacement for about AUD$900. With no choice I agree but then get told he has put one in and it ran only on full speed (5) for ten minutes then blew out. He then got two more and each one either blew out or did not work. He blamed the supplier saying there were signs of rust on the motor and suspected they were exposed to moisture. He then says he is stuck as supplier will not give him any more parts.
He then hands it over to a dealer who he used to work for and they now want AUD $3000 to fix it.
Reading through these and other web pages it seems that it is either the regulator or motor or both and that I can buy replacements for a fraction of that price and have them shipped to Australia and reasonably easily installed. Even if I can get the air working and have the centre vents swithced to 'on' permanently to save pulling the whole dash out, it would be better than paying that amount.
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated
