04 C320 Coupe or 07 VW GTI or 07 Mazdaspeed3 ???

04 C320 Coupe or 07 VW GTI or 07 Mazdaspeed3 ???
I guess, my subject says everything , looking for a sporty performance hatchback/coupe <25 grand.
I was almost sold for the 07 VW GTI until I came across Mazdaspeed3.Now I realized that I can get adecent mercwith <40k milesin my budget.All 3 with manual trannies (of course MS3 is availableonly in manual...)
Considering performance, ride quality, handling, practicality,value for money blah blah blah and all 3 'tie'. ( of course one has edge over other individually, but I am talking as a whole).
Merc adds image, behind the wheel MS3 rocks and GTI iscool.
I am a young professional (20 something MALE). What would you do if you are in my shoes?
By the way, I considered 06/07Audi A3 but it took a miss!

OK. I'll let you know a British point of view.
All 3 you mention should be good for performance and reliability.
Mazda - no matter what - generally have zero image, and are based or fords (the owners) ie Mazda 6 is a Mondeo Chassis. Not my personal choice.
Conclusion - Slightly geeky wannabe image
VW GTi - German Engineering, Image = Maggot/Boy Racer...Rude driver.
Conclusion - Baggy Jeans and Baseball cap with a slight thug image or bad attitude youngster!
Mercedes (anything) = Germany Engineering, Brilliant image, hold the resale value better.
---- and if you're 20'something - People will see you as doing well in your life and job. Other drivers will probably see you as being more considerate (don't let the side down).
Conclusion - Suit and Tie / Casual and Smart... More sophisticated, well respected.
