I just went to my mercedes dealer here in UT for what i thought was just going to be a small supercharger problem. The problem is when the car first starts the supercharger seems to work. But after about 1 min of driving the supercharger disengages, and it runs like a normal v6, and has much less power. I took it to the dealership and they say its going to be 3000 bucks for a new supercharger. WHY????? There is no whining or bearing noise. It works... just for a min or two. Im thinking more along the lines of a clutch. I know dealerships want $. Maybe thats what they want out of me. So i would really appreciate it if someone would share some info, or maybe update me on what they think the problem is. I dont want to pay thousands of dollars to replace something that would cost a lot less.

My car is a 2002 c32 AMG with about 56,000 miles on it.

The dealer said they would charge 1300 for a new clutch, but i dont want to buy a new clutch and have that not be the problem. IF the supercharger IS the problem im thinkiing of getting it rebuilt. Anyone know about getting a supercharger rebuilt, or even an aftermarket one? I dont think they make an aftermarket Scharger for an AMG.. after all, when mine works... IT GOES!! but unfortunatly only for abut 30 seconds and then my fun time is over.

 

Yes, all i have used since i bought it is premium. This is how it has been working.
Right after i turn the key for ignition, the supercharger works for about 1 min. Then after that one min i have no more boost from the supercharger. I loose about 80 % of the power it just had. While accelerating in that first minuet the supercharger will kick in than stop for about one secondd then kicks in again at about 45-50 mph. Then it will do it again at about 90. My supercharger is obviously working. So i dont see how the dealership is telling me i need a new one. It just doesnt stay engaged. SO i was thinkiing clutch. Or i was thinking that it has to do with the cooling system. perhaps the SC is getting too hot, and the cooling isnt working.
I appreciate your help.

I drive an 02 C32 as well and I think what you're experiencing is a failed intercooler pump. This should'nt cost you more than $200 even after dealer installation. Go to the dealership and ask to talk to a technician and tell him to specifically check and test the intercooler pump. Let me know what happens. Good luck!

 

yes check that. if that goes bad it will cut out the supercharger
