Default AMG wheels cracking?

Hello everyone. I joined this forum because I wanted to hear from some other MB owners if they were also having problems with their wheels cracking. I currently have an '05 e55 amg with the stock 18' amg wheels on it. I have cracked three of the original 4 wheels that came on the car. I am really starting to get fed up. Each time I break them I need to spend another $1000 at the dealership getting new ones. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any advice as well? I was thinking about getting some forged aftermarket wheels since they are cheaper than new stock ones, but I like the way the stock wheels look. Any comments would be great.

Default RE: AMG wheels cracking?

I would just go with the aftermarket wheels if it were me. I have bought 3 sets of after market wheels for my Porsche and have never had a problem with any of them. I just picked up my AMG last week and I am planning to replace the stock 17's as soon as possible. I just missed a set of black ones from LA wheels. They were very helpful. I spoke to a guy named Dave there and he told me that they have recently received a shipment of assorted big name after market wheels they will be putting out shortly. You may want to give them a call and get on the waiting list with me.

Cheers

I have had a similar problem with AMG 19 inch rims on my 2016 C300. I have had to replace all 4 rims over an 8 month period. For one of the rims, the dealer had my car for 6 weeks debating what to do with the situation. I have been stranded on 3 occasions on the side of the road due to the rims cracking. I have never, ever cracked or damage a rim in all my 40 years of driving. MB refused to admit there is an issue with the rims. Not to mention the rims are $1500 a piece. I basically was afraid to take the car anywhere due to this issue. The last straw, was getting stranded in Boston . I hit a small pot hole which blew out the front tire damaging the rim once again. As a result, I paid $1100 to replace 2 front tires and have the rims repaired. At that point I traded in the car. I was tired of spending stupid money replacing rims . I was also going to change the tires and rims for 17 inch. That would have been another 2 grand. I got rid of the car. MB customer service was useless. The rep. even admitted to me this was a common problem with the 19 inch rims combined with the run flats.
