I don't want anything bigger than 17's
Even with 17's, I have two spare wheels in the basement, just in case.

i got 19's on mine, the front are 235/35/19 which are the best and 275/30/19 in the rear. I had these tires on a e500 with 245/35/19 and 285/30/19 and they rubbed all over the place. the best handling is with wide 19's, and it spins the tires less than the stock ones, but u get off the line faster cause its like a limited slip diff (lsd) for a qiucker time

I guess you won't feel much difference between 18 and 19 inches... Much more important is the brand and design of your future brand new wheels... I'm crazy from
Giovanna Wheels... Take a look

I was debating the same for myself and just put some new 18" Brabus VI replicas on yesterday (235/40/18 fr, 255/35/18 r). I live in Massachusetts where the roads are not anywhere near "good". I'm happy I went the 18" route, it's a tight fit even with the 18's (8.5/9.5 +35 all around, staggered rims).

I had smaller profile tires on some wheels on an old VW Corrado g60 and I ended up with 3 sets of rims when said and done (thanks to Massachusett's potholes). I also have a clk320, so the 19's would have probably eaten into the performance more also where it's only a 6cyl.

I kinda do.i've got 19" rims with 275/30/19 on the back and 235/35/19 on the front. the tires are a bitch cuz its around $1000 bucks total for the absoloute cheapest tires you can get. the rides a bit rough but nothing i can complain about as an 18 year old girl because it looks great. the noise isn't bad at all. just make sure you get the right size tires. if you get tires any bigger than mine that i listed above the fronts will rub when you turn hard and the backs will rub against the inside of the hub and its just gonna screw up your tires. the price is the only problem i have with having those rims. so if you can afford it, go for it
