Default Xenon headlights CLK 320

Both the xenon headlampclusters in my 1999 CLK 320 are nowpointing too low. There is no adjustment on the dashboard, it is automatic! How do you adjust them up to the correct level?
Can you reply to my email vbennett@btinternet.com

Hi,

You must ask "Why are the lights low NOW, when presumably they used to be OK?

Although I believe there is a mechanical adjustment on your model/age the lights have self levelling on them which operates every time you turn them on. You should be able to see this happening on a garage wall.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT XENON ARE ADJUSTED CORRECTLY SO AS NOT TO DAZZLE OTHER DRIVERS. The operating window for correct adjustment is a fraction of a degree and this cannot (should not) be done on a garage wall if you wish to be a good citizen.

Adjustment is achieved in SOFTWARE so you need to go to an MB dealer. Maybe a stepper motor has failed but you infer BOTH units. For both units to fail at the same time would be unusual.

Within the last week another person on this forum has had a similar problem and when checked out after my warning the lights were found to be OK.

IF the lights have SUDDENLY changed from OK to LOW then I agree with NAZ that rather than the stepper motor which i pointed out as an unlikely failure (X2) the height sensor is common to both headlamps.

I still wonder wether the lights are actually OK but that you would just like them to be pointing a little higher as a personal preference.

You should ensure that the lights really are low as a first step by getting them checked on a Beam Setter to confirm the actual angle vs the recommended angle.

Xenon lights adjusted too high are DANGEROUS to other road users!.
