w124 reverse problem
Hello,
New here, but thought I would ask the collective knowledge base this. I have a 1990 300e 2.8 with 176K. The beaut does not want to engage in reverse in the following circumstances: on a forward(downhill) incline after it has been driven for more than 30 mins. I can coax it into engaging on a flat, but it takes about a 10-15 sec of 2K rpm rev and then engages haltingly, like it catches somewhat. Once it gets going, then I engages, but does not have enuff of a good 'catch' to go uphill, of any incline-even a slight one, in reverse.
It is fine when I leave it for about an hour or of a rear ward incline(i.e. easy to roll backwards). After reading a few posts I did not see exactly this problem, but do suspect some things. Just out of curiosity, why would driving(as in heating up) have an effect. Any thoughts or recommendations would be helpful.
For now I am careful to park with nothing in front of me or on a rearward incline. Seeing as it is approaching 200K and I draive it alot, I am trying to squeeze the best out of it I can. It is truely a workhorse. I love it.
Thanks in Advance
Sam
