Default Technical Assistance - Modification for Torque

G'day all,

Some help if I may? Our 77 280SE

The old girl in our garage is about to be replacedon daily driver duties with something far more baby friendly. (probably a c270 cdi?)

The problem is we've been through alot together and as some bills are piling up towards the $4-5000 dollar mark I am tossing around where I could better spend the money on her viaa long term DIY project rather than letting the specialist charge me a bomb to get her back to where she is (new exhaust, engine rebuild). One ideawhich I am seriously considering and would like some help with is a driveability and fuel economyimprovement via a custom low pressure turbo install.

Does anyone know anyone who has modified some of the older vehicles succesfully in this way?

I've got all the fabrication side covered, my problems startwith the below.

Specifically:

1. Fuel system - is it possible to retain the factory mechanical injection and add an auxiliary / piggy back injector or has anyone successfully fitted an EFI system to one of these motors? Is the mechanical injection regulated via a pressure control or is it via the pedal position?

2. How is the ignition timing controlled?

3. Can this gearbox cope? (I am looking for a mild mid range torque increase not a boy racer)

4. Should someone happen to have done this on a 280 please get in touch as we need to talk.

thank you for your time.
