I was wondering what tool makes the check engine light appear in a c230 kompressor coupe. In sense is it digitally appeared or from a small bulb beneath the lettering when a misfunction is encountered?

i had an issue with the car and apparently CHECK ENGINE did not turn on, wondering how i can open my dash to check and just getting a better underestanding.

The Check Engine Light CEL SHOULD come on the ensure that the system is working correctly when you turn the Ignition On. It goes out several seconds later.
If the light does not come on it could be the bulb/LED BUT it is possible to turn the light OFF in USA!!

The light is a legal requirement that advises an infrigement of legal emissions threshold values.

Whether it is a bulb or an LED (Light Emitting Diode) the light from this device shines thru a mask with the word or graphic (motor) for CEL. Used to be called MIL Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

This illuminating device isn't "digital" but the circuit that drives it (Engine ECU) is.
