hi i have a 98slk 230 kompressor and was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the little red fob is that comes with the key, i have never had to use this and didnt ask what it was for when i bought the car, also i have just lost my spare set which also had one of these little fobs on it,
i am buying a new key fob, blade and reprogramming code and just wondered if i need to get the little red fob, also when i reprogramme the new key will i have to reprogram the master key again or are they all the same codes

Getting "spare" keys coded isn't a simple as you make it sound.
Who's doing the coding? MB. Have you agreed a price for this with them in advance?
Where is the spare "blade" coming from?

No idea what your red fob thing is. Maybe just an ID that the previous customer attached to his keys.
