Salvage conversion.
2007 SL55 AMG, not salvaged, excellent condition. Improving intercooling and traction, goal about 140mph in the air port half mile's and 180 in the Texas mile. To the point of the salvage conversion. Always thought that I would change the ABC suspension out for AirMatic of steel springs some time down the road, say two or so years. Then some ya hu turned left in front of me (I was doing 40), panic stop, missed him by inches. But sense then left rear is extended, doesn't lower with the rest of the wheels. May have blown a seal in the hydraulic control unit. So steel spring conversion, this is where I need my logic checked. Lower control arms for the SL55 have the ABC structs applying their load to the center of the arm, mutes the response, bad for performance. I believe that 2003 through 2007 E class front lower control arms and AirMatic lower control arms for the rear, will bolt into my existing arms. ML power steering unit, and 2012 strut assemblies for SL chassis (W231) will drop in. E class control arms move the suspension loads out toward the wheels, and the W231 spring shock assembly are about right for height and corner weights. Buy Arms new, but spring and shocks (W231) are salvage, about $300.00, total $500. Question; is the control arm thinking correct and how do you inform the CPU ABC is gone? End game Bilstein makes coil overs for the W231 chassis.
